  • An important message from the Burnett County Health Department

    Good Morning,

Some of you may already have received this information, but I wanted to pass it on to you as some of your districts students may have been exposed and we want you to have all the information needed to help keep your students as healthy as possible.  Thanks so much.  Please share with administration and student families as you see fit.

Polk County Health Department is actively investigating an outbreak of pertussis that started with the first reported case on March 28, 2018.    There are currently 12 lab-confirmed or epi-linked cases in this outbreak.  All of the cases are high school students in the St. Croix Falls school district in Polk County.  All have been fully immunized with pertussis containing vaccines.

Polk County is working closely with the school district in an effort to distribute information to parents and to assist in isolating symptomatic students who may need testing or who are awaiting test results.  Some close contacts may attend other schools in Polk County or neighboring counties.  We will be notified if we have contacts or suspect cases in our county.

All of the medical clinics in Polk & Burnett Counties have been advised to screen for pertussis for anyone presenting with a cough illness.  We want to reinforced the importance of testing, isolating and treating suspect cases.

I also want to give you a heads up on potential spread to our county.  One of the Polk County cases has been involved in a wrestling camp in Amery that has been in session 3 days a week since 4/2/18.  Over 100 students and coaches attend this camp from a multitude of school districts in this area including our county.  If you hear about any participation in this wrestling camp from any of your students please contact the Burnett County Health Department with that information.  Please call me at 715-349-7600 ext. 1258.    I have attached a Pertussis fact sheet from DHS for your convenience.

  • The Siren School District has made a change to the current school year calendar. As a result of our recent snow days and late arrivals due to inclement weather, we have a deficit in our required instructional hours. Therefore, the district will be adding 10 minutes to each school day, beginning on March 19, 2018. Dismissal time will be 3:40 p.m. In addition, April 27 will be a regular school day of instruction. Previously this date was a scheduled teacher inservice.

April 27, 2018 - Full Day of School (Regular Class Attendance)
