Articulated CTE Classes
Posted by Renae Peterson on 2/28/2023I was compiling some information for Dr. Shetler on CTE Classes and articulation with CVTC and Northwood Tech College. Our students are lucky to have the opportunity to earn Technical school credits in High School at no cost to them. All they need to do is sign up for the credit, complete the class and earn a grade of C or higher.
Twenty-seven FCS students have earned a total of 96 credits with CVTC.
Eight Tech Ed students have earned 24 credits with Northwood Technical College.
I started with articulation in 2016-17 and have had 75 students earn 335 credits with Northwood Technical College. Twelve of those students have earned Technical Diplomas in the Financial Service Customer Representative area.
When I talk to former students about the academy and the options to earn credits, they often say they wish that had been an option for them. I encourage parents to have a conversation with their students about the value of earning these credits in HS.

Missed the kids today, it didn't feel like a regular vacation day. I got grades done and started working on getting things ready for 4th quarter. I'm hoping that by tomorrow I will have updated my Moodle courses.
I hope that you are all safe and healthy! Wash your hands!

Trying out new things
Posted by Renae Peterson on 1/17/2020 4:00:00 PMFor our Educator Effectiveness every year we have to identify a Professional Practice Goal. This year my goal is to come up with strategies to help students comprehend the concepts in class better to increase their learning. As a Google Certified Trainer I was given access to PearDeck, a Google Slides add-on that allows me to incorporate formative assessment and interactive assessments into my lessons. I tried it out last semester with one of my classes and then again the other day. I works great! I can access it on my ipad in real time as well to see the student responses as they are typing or drawing them.

End of Semester 1
Posted by Renae Peterson on 1/10/2020 4:00:00 PMSo here we are at the end of Semester 1 of the 19-20 school year. I have to say that this semester was a good one. I had classes that I enjoyed and I learned a lot as well as the students.
My Financial Academy students worked hard at Financial Accounting and are ready to move on to Principles of Finance and finishing their Microsoft classes.
Personal Finance brought a lot of good discussion and insight about the realm of economics.
Computer Applications went well with the new curriculum. Access was hard for the kids but in the end they did learn a bit about databases.
Publications had a larger class this semester [than the past couple of years] and we successfully completed our pages for the first deadline! The book is going to be another good one and they have used their creativity well in the class.
I had one 5th grade class this year because of the class size. We learned a lot and hopefully they will be able to use their Chromebooks to keep learning about the technology.
So here's to another great semester that will go by fast!
