SMAUG is called by some “The Juggling Club” .  It’s true we do juggle but that isn’t all we do.  We unicycle, do diabolo, poi, balancing, rola-bola, flower stick, rope tricks, and plate spinning.  We welcome new balance and movement skills when we find them.

Besides having fun and working on non-competitive physical activities, we also reach out to spread the joy of juggling with others by performing and teaching.  Our members have performed at the SHS Variety show, Encore, as part of the play Beauty and the Beast, at Kapes Lakeside, and for the Salvation Army at Four Winds Market.  We have taught/worked with younger students at the Dragon Learning Center and have taught new learners(young and old) at open juggling during Music in the Park throughout the summer.

Performing in not a requirement of the club.  Some people juggle just to relax or exercise. Being a juggler is not a requirement to join the club.  Most of us learned after joining. The only requirements are that you come to work on juggling or another movement skill, you treat the other members with kindness, and you have fun.

In addition to teaching and performing in Burnett County, we also attend the annual MONDO Juggling Festival in St. Paul, MN.  This is a weekend festival which features workshops, vendors, a stage show and four basketball courts full of jugglers and unicyclists practicing their skills.  They are happy to juggle with new people and share the tricks they know. It is an awesome time!

We are currently a club for high school students but occasionally we  have visitors from the middle school if they are passionate about juggling.
