• WALL OF HONOR Guidelines 
     
    The Siren Board of Education feels it is important to recognize the accomplishments of alumni, employees, citizens and groups/organizations who live(d)/serve(d) within the school district and therefore establishes the Siren Wall of Honor. Those recognized will have demonstrated or contributed to one or more of the following areas: Education, Business, Human Services, Government, Athletics, Military Service, and Fine Arts.
     
    “The Siren Board of Education hereby establishes the Siren Wall of Honor to recognize the accomplishments of Siren alumni, employees, citizens and groups/organizations who live(d)/serve(d) within the school district; and those whose actions or traits have provided a level of inspiration to students in a manner that has caused the character and/or academic integrity of the Siren student body to be elevated to an unparalleled level of excellence.”
     
    The policy of the Board is to induct a maximum of one (1) honoree per year as part of the senior graduation ceremonies. Honorees shall be defined as former Siren alumni, employees, citizens and groups/organizations who live(d)/serve(d) within the school district. Honorees shall be recognized with a plaque and certificate. The plaque is to be permanently placed on display within the school building. The certificate will be presented to the inductee or a family representative during the high school graduation ceremony.
     
    An honoree selection committee will be established as follows: Committee membership shall not exceed six (6): five (5) voting members and a non-voting chairperson. Voting members will represent the following: One (1) member of the Siren School District Administration; one (1) Siren K-6 teacher; one (1) 7-12 teacher; one (1) Siren School Board Member; one (1) Siren at large community member; one (1) at large chairperson, non-voting. Committee selection and terms shall be voted on at the Siren School District Annual Meeting. Nominations may be made from the floor or submitted in writing to the District Administrator’s office prior to the Annual Meeting date. Election will be by a simple majority of votes cast by those in attendance at the Annual Meeting.
     
    Terms of office shall be as follows: Chairperson, three (3) years; k-6 teacher, three (3) years, 7-12 teacher, three (3) years; at large community member, three (3) years; school board member, one (1) year; district administrator, three (3) years. Members may serve consecutive terms if nominated and elected to do so. Vacancies will be filled by Board of Education appointment for the remainder of that term. 
     
    The following information establishes honoree nomination and selection procedures. Nominations shall be presented on a prepared form and shall be presented in a resume style. Forms are available in the District Administrator’s office (see attached form). Minimum age of nomination and selection shall be based on post high school accomplishments.
     
    Nominations must be received prior to March 1 to be considered for induction at the spring graduation. Nominees not inducted will be reconsidered for up to five (5) years. Nomination papers will be kept on file at the Siren Schools District office for a minimum of five (5) years. Completed nomination forms must be submitted to the Siren School.
     
    Nominees for induction must receive four (4) out of five (5) votes from the selection committee to be recommended to the Siren Board of Education as a Wall of Honor Inductee. The Siren Board of Education shall make the final approval by a majority vote of the members present.
     
    A letter certificate be sent to EACH Wall of Honor nominee with a copy of the letter being sent to the individual completing the nomination (not cc’d within document in case the nominating person wants to stay anonymous). The letter would be signed by the President of the School Board of Education
     
    The Siren School District shall not discriminate in admissions to the Hall of Honor on the basis of sex, race, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, parental or marital status, sexual orientation or physical, learning, emotional or mental disability. Discrimination complaints shall be processed in accordance with established procedures.
